A deploy receipt is a record of a single deployment: what changed, the request that produced it, the checks it passed, who approved it and when, and what it can be rolled back to. It turns the question of who changed what, and why, into a lookup.

Auditors, clients and incident reviews all ask the same questions after a change. A receipt answers them without reconstructing events from tickets and emails, and matters most for changes drafted by AI, where the request is part of the evidence.
