What is Salesforce sandbox?
A copy of a production org for building and testing
Definition
A Salesforce sandbox is a copy of a production org used for development, testing and training. Developer sandboxes copy metadata only; Partial Copy and Full sandboxes also copy some or all records. Changes are built and tested in sandboxes, then deployed to production.
01Why it matters
Salesforce sandbox in practice
Sandboxes let teams change things without risking production, but they drift: production keeps changing after a sandbox is refreshed, so a change that works in a sandbox can still fail or overwrite something when it reaches production.

How it shows up in the product
Plans are priced by production org, and each production org's sandboxes are included. Members can deploy to sandboxes freely; production needs an approved proposal. Metadata can be compared between a sandbox and production before a release.
